    1. TRANSITIONAL SHELTER FOR URBAN STREET CHILDREN

     

    Design & Construction As part of the project titled ‘Cycle of Care’ with children from Sadarghat, Kamalapur and Mohammadpur collaborating with the local organization LEEDO working for many of them in these areas, Paraa designed and supervised the construction of a shelter in Babubazar, Dhaka.     3. SAJIDA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

    Design & Supervision Funded by Sajida Foundation, Paraa availed the scope of designing a health centre that could meet the healthcare needs of Mouchak. Looking through the critical lens Paraa engaged to the understanding of community needs through multiple workshops and surveys in the area, subjected to assessment and interpretation in architectural design interventions.     4. PAVEMENT DWELLERS’ CENTRE (Amrao Manush)

    Design & Supervision The project stated for design and construction supervision of a Pavement Dwelling Centre (PDC) in Maniknagar for the beneficiaries.

    Paraa prospect was participatory research and development of a multipurpose urban shelter to rehabilitate low income pavement dwelling families. Thereby Paraa’s standpoint in the project has been to explore ways of participation in building ownership sense and scopes for tenure security and mobilization among urban homeless families, focusing on the children and their mothers.

    DESIGN COMPETITION

    FOR RECREATIONAL

    URBAN GARDENING

    Design Charrette Paraa supported LEEDO Peace Home; housing a mix of 40 homeless children, to adapt a self-dependent and sustainable project to help ensure a secured and healthy childhood.

    Focusing on the idea of recreational urban agriculture, LEEDO and PARAA launched ‘GROWING UP,’ an open design competition for students and fresh graduates. Our approach of creating, educating and facilitating a voluntary network of architecture students led by one from BRAC University designed and installed a small scale urban garden with the children in a participatory manner.

    7. GARDEN & PLAY AREA FOR URBAN CHILDREN

    Participatory Design & Installation of Urban Garden Paraa team, the kids and the participants of the Charrette worked together to create a sustainable organic garden, a place for the kids to hang out, also to celebrate special occasions.     9. FROM SCHOOL TO HOMESTEAD

    Workshop & Book Design Terre Des Homes has been working on community gardening and health education for the children of Kurigram belonging to the poor communities. Paraa associated with the project in publishing a cooking book that would include healthy recipes for children and mother with their home-grown vegetables. Regarding the project Paraa conducted a drawing workshop with the children for graphic inputs and published a recipe book ‘Rannar Shomoy (Time to Cook)’ later distributed among the communities as part of health and nutrition awareness.     Architectural Design The design concept illustrated a multifunctional space that can comply with the ecological sustainability. The concept was decisive in featuring a space with the sense of health and well-being that leverages natural environment and contributes to the cohesiveness of the built space with the surrounding ecosystem.     Design & Supervision Save the Children Bangladesh won the ‘Urban Innovation Fund Challenge’ to design an ICT-based platform to provide urban slum communities with a spatial awareness database and feedback mechanism. As part of the project Paraa supervised the design and construct four ICT-based multi-purpose community information centres within and/or adjacent to slums in Mirpur ward 03 and 05.     LAL BEGUNI SHWAPNO :
    Work of six kids from Leedo shelter, who had previously lived on the streets of Dhaka. They made seven short films which reflect their experiences on the street and also their thoughts.
